Make a difference – Volunteer at the Copenhagen Historical Market
As a volunteer, you get the opportunity to experience the market in a very special way. You get to get behind the curtain, experience the festive evenings by the fire and become part of an amazing community.
We promise:

- Free catering and the option to stay overnight in shared tents.
- Free access to the market when you’re not on duty.
- Volunteer activities such as volunteer parties and the like.
We expect you to:
- Good mood and drive.
- That you are on the market at least 2 of the 4 opening days.
All volunteers are divided into different teams with different tasks. When you sign up, you can choose which team(s) you would like to join.
It’s also possible to help with set-up or take-down, we can always use more help. So if you’d like to hone your tent skills and build a lot of installations, please sign up to help us before/after the market. There will of course be catering and the possibility to stay overnight.

Team descriptions
As an entrance volunteer, you are the very first person our guests meet. You help set the mood for their entire visit from the moment they enter the site.
Tasks:
- Ticket sales: You welcome guests and take care of ticket sales.
- Mental arithmetic: As it can be fast-paced, it is an advantage if you are comfortable using a calculator or are good at quick mental math.
- The good mood: Your smile is your customers’ first impression, so we emphasize a welcoming attitude.
In the Information Tent, you are the “heart” of the market. This is where guests go when they have questions, need help or just need guidance on the day’s program.
Tasks:
- Guidance: You help guests find their way around the site and answer questions about the different activities.
- Security: You are the fixed point if children and parents have become separated.
- Forgotten items: You keep track of and hand out forgotten items that are handed in during the day.
- Joy to the children: You make sure to fold and hand out posters to the many children who visit the market.
As a Guide or Site Host, you help create safety and order in and around the marketplace. You are our eyes and ears on the ground, making sure that everything is in order and that everyone feels well guided.
Your tasks:
- Access control to the volunteer area: You’ll help ensure that our volunteer area remains reserved for the team, so your fellow volunteers have a quiet place to take a break.
- Directions: You guide our guests safely from the parking areas all the way to the entrance.
- Area inspection: You make pleasant rounds along the fence and on the site to make sure everything looks tidy and that the fencing is intact.
- Guest service: You’re ready to answer questions and help guests on their way.
Do you want to help spread joy through food and good vibes? As part of the kitchen team, you make sure your fellow volunteers are re-energized to keep spirits high throughout the market. It’s here in the kitchen that we create the base for the good community.
Your tasks:
- Cooking and socializing: You’ll help prepare and serve delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner to hungry teams.
- Snack manager: You prepare snacks and drinks so there’s always something delicious for breaks.
Good atmosphere: You help keep the kitchen and dining area neat and inviting.
This is the class for those who love to be on the move and want to experience the whole market atmosphere. You’ll spend most of your time on the square itself, so you’ll get to see all the corners, hear the music and feel the buzz of the many activities.
Your tasks:
- Site maintenance: You walk around the site and keep it clean and tidy by picking up loose waste.
- Waste management: You help empty trash cans so they never get overflowing.
Ad hoc helper: You are our “handyman/woman” who steps in with a helping hand if small practical tasks arise along the way.
Do you want to help ensure that market visitors and volunteers have a great experience throughout the day? As part of the sanitation team, you’ll help maintain our high standard of hygiene, which is crucial to the well-being of the site.
Your tasks:
- Hygiene check: You make sure our toilet and shower trailers are always inviting and clean.
- Service and replenishment: You make sure there’s never a shortage of toilet paper and soap.
- Light maintenance: The work mainly consists of ongoing superficial cleaning and ensuring that the facilities are working as they should.
Ad hoc tasks: You help with small practical tasks that ensure a good sanitary standard throughout the area.
Are you hands-on and do you like to see quick results from your work? As part of the technical team, you are the one who keeps the wheels turning. You help build the framework and solve the technical challenges that arise along the way to keep the market running smoothly.
Your tasks:
- Technical maintenance: You help keep track of the power (electricity) and technical installations on site.
- Hands-on construction: Tasks can involve anything from light carpentry to setting up and preparing furniture.
- Muscle power and overview: You’ll help move and position equipment correctly to keep logistics running smoothly.
- Problem solver: You step in with your toolbox when a quick and practical solution is needed.
As a token sale volunteer, you have one of the friendliest jobs at the market. You’re the one who gives children and their families access to all the fun activities, and you help ensure that the youngest guests have a magical day.
Your tasks:
- Selling tokens: You serve customers at the token booth and make sure everyone gets the right tokens to play with.
- Activity Guide: You’re the expert who guides families on what the tokens can be used for – from face painting to archery.
- Cash management: You handle payments, so it’s important that you’re comfortable using a POS system and handling money.
Good atmosphere: You stay calm and in a good mood, even when there’s a rush of expectant children.
The To4You association is responsible for the bars at KHM. Do you have an agreement with To4You? Then you can select it in your registration.
CG Security is responsible for first aid throughout KHM.
