Whether you're into sword fighting, authentic crafts or just want to enjoy a mead in the sun, Copenhagen Historical Market is the biggest historical experience of the year for the whole family.
Pictures are worth a thousand words. Below you’ll get a glimpse of the atmosphere, matches and moments that await you and your family at Valbyparken.

Every year at Whitsun, Valbyparken is transformed into a stage for both fierce battles and magnificent entertainment. Our program is packed with activities for history buffs, families with children and those who just love the special market atmosphere.
Below you can read about the experiences you can look forward to at the square.
⚔️ Matches and Tournaments
No historical festival is complete without the sound of swords and trampling horse hooves. Look forward to feeling the ground shake when the heavy knights on horseback clash in the great tournament, where courage, strength and precision are put to the test with lances and lance fighting.
Are you more into raw close combat? Then don’t miss the great Viking and medieval battles, where warriors in authentic armor demonstrate everything from army maneuvers to intense man-on-man duels.
🔥 Fun, Fire and Music
The marketplace never stands still. Throughout the day you’ll find jugglers juggling and making children and adults alike laugh with their quirky antics. As darkness begins to fall (or as a spectacular finale), you can often experience fascinating fire shows where the flames dance to the music.
The atmosphere is supported throughout by live music. Historical instruments such as drums and stringed instruments create the sound curtain that connects past and present as you wander between the stalls.
🛡️ For Kids and Kids at heart
History shouldn’t just be seen – it should be felt! For the little ones (and brave adults) there are plenty of opportunities to actively participate.
Try your hand at bow and arrow on the shooting range, learn how to swing a sword in Viking training, or explore the many working workshops. Here you can watch the blacksmith hammer the iron hot, the potter shape the clay, or experience how clothes and tools were made long before factories were built.
